Thoughts

Another story in the Lincoln Rhyme series, and this one is a bit of a departure from the previous ones. Firstly, the crime they are investigating is a bit of a woolly one, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hard and fast evidence that Lincoln can cast his forensic eye over and it’s more of a cerebral crime solving book than we’ve seen before.

I thought it was also interesting that Rhyme and Sachs spent a significant portion of the book apart, doing their own separate parts of the investigation and only coming together occasionally, and of course towards the end.

The personal aspects of the story continue to provide the most interest though, particularly as long-running themes start to have more impact - Rhyme’s attempts at rehabilitation, and Sachs’s struggles with her chronic condition. Solid, if different, entry in the Rhyme series.
