Straight people should have to come out too. And the more awkward it is, the better. Simon Spier is sixteen and trying to work out who he is - and what he's looking for. But when one of his emails to the very distracting Blue falls into the wrong hands, things get all kinds of complicated. Because, for Simon, falling for Blue is a big deal... It's a holy freaking huge awesome deal.

I read this after seeing the film, which was a really good one. The movie is pretty close to the source material, with just a few tweaks here and there, but the main thing I took from it was that Simon, as a complex teenage character, doesn’t quite generate as much sympathy on the page as he did on screen.

But still, I think it’s a good and important read, and if it helps any teens out there who are going through similar times (probably not so far as the blackmail, but you never know), then it’s worth it.
