In Lucky Alice Sebold reveals how her life was irrevocably changed when, as an eighteen-year-old college freshman, she was raped and beaten inside a tunnel near her campus. Thoughts
Alice Sebold was raped in her freshman year at college, and this is her story of how she gets over the trauma and takes the perpetrator to court. It’s a brave story and refreshingly honest, I think she dealt with it really well.<
Alice, obviously, was open and clear about the whole business, she explained everything from the actual attack to how she felt about it afterwards. I thought she was very strong about it and didn’t want sympathy from anyone.
The book switches between the actual story of what happened to her, to memories of her earlier childhood and then a brief synopsis of what she did with the rest of her life. It was good, difficult to read - very gruesome but with a great sense of achievement as she starts to move on.
