In their third adventure, the Famous Five discover that someone has been on George's island. And what is locked in the mysterious trunk hidden on Kirrin Island?

Thoughts

Third in the Famous Five series, and this time the gang are very much left to fend for themselves. When Aunt and Uncle have to go away for illness, the crew find themselves at the mercy of some very unscrupulous fill-in housekeepers. It does make me wonder how much screening Uncle Quentin does on his staff, with these guys and with the rogue tutor from the previous book.

Anyway, I liked this book because they spent a good deal more time on the island, and were able to live out that amazing dream of living as a castaway for a few days. It didn’t work out quite so well this time for poor Anne, because she ends up doing a significant amount of home-making. She claims to enjoy it but I’m not so sure. Meanwhile, the rest are busy foiling a kidnapping plot! These kids really do get into some scrapes! Can’t wait to see what they do next.
