Escape to the country

I’ll be straight about this, I’ve had a crush on Robson Green for as long as I can remember, so I really like his BBC series where he takes friends, family, and fellow actors around his favourite parts of the North. Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes features the man himself taking these guests somewhere to rest, relax and recharge, and unwind with an activity that can be sporty, creative, or nature-based.
I love this show for two reasons: one is the guests. Sometimes they are people I don’t know, but more often than not they are recognisable faces who are really interesting to see in a different environment. The latest series featured the wonderful Gail Porter, the always funny Mark Benton, and surprise guest Sheli McCoy (Sabre off Gladiators). It’s great to learn a bit more about them and see how they approach the different activities.
The second reason to love it is the inspiring and beautiful countryside. Robson sticks close to home so he shows people around Northumberland and Scotland and areas like that. It’s gorgeous and it makes me itch to go outside and see some sights. I’m hoping to do a bit more of that this year, and whilst I might not get as adventurous as the fly fishing and canoeing that are seen on screen, just getting outside into nature would be a good start.
Quite often, a local craft pops up on the show. Sometimes this is arty, sometimes a bit more random like rope knotting, or building sandcastles. The real joy is realising that there’s plenty to do out there, you just have to get out and give it a go!
