Just good friends

I’ve just recently finished watching the second series of Platonic and it was absolutely incredible, even better than the first one. It doesn’t look like I wrote anything after watching the first series which is a surprise because it was an excellent set of ten episodes. Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen star as best friends who had fallen out for a while but end up reconnecting and getting wrapped up in each other’s lives again - in comedic but completely platonic fashion.
The chemistry between the pair as friends, who bicker and fall out but ultimately love each other and want the best for each other, is incredible. Rose Byrne is a relatively uptight mother of three, but she tries to be cool and understanding whilst also meddling here and there. Seth Rogen is the misfit friend who has a disastrous sense of fashion that no one seems to comment on, but somehow you still want him to succeed. With a supporting cast of extended family, this odd couple are given the space to get up to all sorts of mischief. In the first series, it’s quite a lot about Sylvia getting back to work, and Will finding his way after a divorce.
The second series ramps things up and is properly hilarious. We’ve got a friend with a podcast, a husband that wants to go on Jeopardy, an engagement that goes south quite quickly, and lots of other issues in love and work. I don’t want to spoil the details but any series that can feature THAT golfing incident (squeamish) and still be outstandingly funny is worth a watch.
It’s constantly surprising but full of heart, and relatable in that these characters are endlessly re-evaluating their lives and wondering if they’re getting the most out of their time on this earth. And funny all the way through. The second series builds on the first, and the more episodes there are, the more inside jokes you have and can get, just like with any relationship. Therefore, there needs to be a third series because from what I can see, it’s only going to get better.
