Knit bits - The striped cardigan

Published August 17, 2025

The pattern of this striped cardigan caught my eye and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Although it says it’s designed for men, it looks pretty unisex to me. So I set about knitting it and am pretty happy with the result.

The only issue with the final result is that one of the shoulders sticks up a bit like it should have shoulder pads in it. The other one is fine. Also, it’s far too hot at the moment to be wearing a cardigan of any sort let alone a woollen one. I always seem to finish a project at exactly the wrong season to be wearing it.

Meanwhile, the knitting of this cardigan was pretty straight-forward in terms of stitching, but the pattern itself took some getting used to. I had to unravel one of the sleeves after realising I’d messed it up early on and was therefore completely out of sync with the other sleeve and the main body. I’ll be honest and admit, I ended up translating the pattern into a spreadsheet to be able to keep track better. Hooray for spreadsheets!

This project definitely increased my patience levels, and I had a bit of a revelation along the way - I’m so slow at this knitting thing, but equally, what’s the rush? It’s a nice way to unwind sometimes, it’s not like I’m working on commission. The joy is in the making, so it doesn’t really matter how long the making takes.
