Knit bits - Cardigan take two
Published September 22, 2024
Earlier in the year, I wrote about the first cardigan I had knitted. I’m very proud of it and still wear it, but do have to admit it doesn’t fit at all well and the colour continues to annoy me. I knew as soon as I’d finished the first one that I wanted to knit it again and do better, and that’s exactly what I’ve done.
I’ve had the pieces of this finished for a while but it’s taken me far too long to get round to sewing it all up together - finally have achieved it and wahey, cardigan take two!

It’s using this pattern but I made some adjustments from the first iteration.
Firstly, a much nicer colour, plum, that is a bit deeper red in reality than in the picture. I went for a smaller size which fits better, and made the sleeves a bit longer than the pattern suggests which immediately makes it more comfortable for me. Finally, I decided not to do the button-holes and buttons on this one, so there’s just the trim that goes all the way round the neck and down each side.
In hindsight, that probably doesn’t work very well because it’s a v-neck that lends itself to buttons and fastenings… so next time I’m going to try a pattern for a cardigan that just hangs from the shoulder better with no intention of fastening. Either way, I love this one, and I really love having made something and then done it again with improvements. A lot of fun.
