It only takes one good thing

I’ve scaled back my Zero Waste efforts recently because real life has gotten in the way, as it always tends to do. But I’m still always interested in people and companies that are thinking outside the box and being innovative in the way they design products.

I stumbled on One Good Thing, OGT, who make a variety of protein bars that don’t have a wrapper - or they do but it’s edible so it doesn’t result in any waste at all.

So, we set off to the lab with some clever scientists & nutritionists to develop an answer to the countryside’s litter problem by tackling the root cause - food wrappers.

We developed a completely edible, 100% natural replacement for a traditional plastic or paper wrapper - made mostly out of beeswax, our special coating is derived from nature, to give back to nature and removes the need for plastic waste altogether.

At first, I was thinking - how does that work, it’ll just pick up dust in your pocket while you’re hiking. But the FAQ pointed out that it’s like an apple, they come in their own edible wrappers, and if your apple gets grubby, you just give it a quick rinse and carry on as normal.

There are a few flavours to choose from, and although they’re probably a bit more expensive than your basic snack bar, they’re obviously doing good at the same time. It’s a small thing, but as the company says, it’s one good thing.
