What are you waiting five?

I enjoyed the first two seasons of Girls5Eva, a short and sweet comedy series about a girl group who had a brief moment of fame in the past and are now back in the public consciousness (sort of), thanks to a feature in a new song. They regroup, literally, deal with the fact there are only four of them now, and start tentative steps towards a career.
Which already sounds like plenty of plot, but they also have grown up lives to deal with now, and are also each really funny in their own right, but best when they’re together bouncing off each other. Sara Bareilles brings the heart of the show as the more sensible Dawn, but Renée Elise Goldsberry steals most of the shows as the precocious Wickie.
I hadn’t realised the series went through a cancellation and subsequent saving by Netflix, it was only when I saw the recent six-part third season appear on the streamer that I caught up with that off-screen drama. But it was the on-screen stuff that was the real draw.
This is such a quirky little show, women just running around and trying to recapture moments from their youth, being brilliant and awful in equal measure and generally blazing their way through life. It’s funny, with some good songs scattered through the series to get stuck in your mind. Talking of which… the theme song is the one I can’t shake. It sums up the show perfectly because the first two lines of the chorus are actually quite nifty, but the second two let the whole thing down hilariously.
Gonna be famous 5eva
Cause 4eva’s too short
Gonna be famous 3gether
Cause that’s one more than 2gether!
