Strictly Come Dancing 2023, Week 10 thoughts
Published November 26, 2023

We’re at the point now where the floor suddenly seems very empty even when all the couples are there - just six dances to get through tonight, and then only five couples making it through to next week. But hooray, the next show is the musicals special and with the quality of dancers we have left, we should be in for some brilliant entertainment. But that’s next week, let’s focus on our six special couples and how they got on.
Layton & Nikita - American Smooth
What a choice of song! Who is having to imitate Bjork? And how are they even dancing to this, it’s not easy! I didn’t really enjoy this dance as a whole, but the accents and little moments littered through the number were brilliant. Plus it’s always good if someone gets to hush Craig. The judges had mixed reviews, but it was good scores in the end.
Nigel & Katya - Rumba
This might be the best rumba I’ve ever seen? Usually not a big fan of this sensual style of dance but this one was so good. And brave to start on his own like that, great storytelling. “Lots of love and rumba-ness.”
Annabel & Johannes - Paso Doble
Love Johannes on the tennis court. Really good, great focus, the crowd loved it, standing ovation! Craig did not love it, however. Would never have predicted she’d get a 10 in this show, amazing!
Angela & Carlos - Cha Cha Cha
This was okay, it didn’t really grab me though and I can’t tell you why. Angela was so good last week but think she’s the weakest of the four we’ve seen so far.
Bobby & Dianne - Couple’s Choice
Utterly devastating story, obviously. I didn’t really like the song but the dancing was perfect. Broke everyone, very emotional.
Ellie & Vito - Argentine Tango
“Family, I am here too, you know.” Tune! Incredible dance, passion, great steps, lifts, she walked on his leg for goodness’ sake.
Before seeing the dances, I had originally predicted Nigel would go out - considering that he always has the possibility of making mistakes and had a proper grump last week. But after seeing the dances I changed my mind and predicted Layton and Angela as the bottom two, and for once I was right!
It was Angela’s time to go, she’s had an incredible run but it was probably about the right time for her. Such a close competition though, making predictions at this point is so hard!
