A good yarn

Published March 8, 2023

A top down view of lots of balls of yarn, all different colours of the rainbow

As I am now mildly obsessed with knitting, I bought a handful of balls of wool and various knitting needles and quite quickly realised I wasn’t sure what I had and what I needed for future projects. As you can imagine, there’s an app for that! My choice at the moment is YarnBuddy which seems like a simple enough app that has just enough detail to keep things ticking along nicely.

Firstly, it syncs between devices, including the Mac, which is always very useful. It has an area to log the wool and yarn in your inventory, as well as what needles you have available in a separate ‘tools’ section. And then it has an area for projects, where you can keep track of what you’re working on, set up projects for the future, and most satisfying of all, mark off the ones you have completed.

There’s room to include patterns via pdf or image, as well as adding photos so you can keep track of how your projects and your knitting prowess is progressing. The app is for lots of projects, not just knitting, but of course that’s where my focus is at the moment. I already feel a lot more organised, and now when I next go to start a new project, I’ll be able to know if I have the right needles around or if I need another trip to the craft shop.
