Spotlights on Midnights

One of the innovations Apple Fitness+ feature is artist spotlight workouts, where all the music on the workout playlist are from one specific artist, giving you a chance to really celebrate with your favourite artists or get into the groove with a specific vibe.

If I’m honest, I’ve not been a big fan of these, but I don’t have a good reason for that. Some of the featured artists haven’t necessarily been my cup of tea, but there have been a couple I’ve liked and just not really been bothered about.

I was intrigued this week when they launched some new ones, including Taylor Swift to coincide with the release of her new album Midnights. Not only are all the songs from the country pop superstar but they’ve also dimmed the lights a bit in the studio to simulate the midnight feel. Bit weird, but let’s go with it.

I decided to try a Taylor focused workout, the Hiit with Anja edition. It was a good workout anyway, but what I really liked was what a fan Anja appears to be. All the tracks selected were Taylor’s Version, as it should be, but also the final round of intensive moves only lasted for 13 seconds each.

“Swifties will know,” Anja said.

Turns out doing a move for 13 seconds only is pretty motivational because you can really give something a good go when it’s only going to last the blink of an eye. I mean, the final challenge flipped things to be 1 minute and 13 seconds, but still, it was fun while it lasted.

Maybe now I will try some of the other artist workouts and see what I’ve been missing out on. There are a good few to choose from - Alicia Keys, Keith Urban, Queen, Elton John, Imagine Dragons and many more.
