2012 Wk 12, Three month turnaround

Published April 1, 2012

It doesn’t take long before my attention span wanders. I had that plan, run thirty minutes in the evening, a long run at weekends. Then the clocks changed, and there was all this daylight in the evening, and I wanted to do something a bit more focused. So, I went and signed up for another Runkeeper Fitness Class. Actually the same one I did before, the 10k one.

I could go right ahead with all the excuses and things now, but really all I need to say is that I’m just taking it as it comes and not pressuring myself to do anything out of the ordinary. I’m not always going to be able to spare the time for the distances in an evening, but I’ll do my best and see what happens.

This week was good, of course, being the easiest week of the course. On the first day, I ran as soon as I got home from work and the sun was shining so strong, I was exhausted. I’d forgotten what it was like to run in the heat! Next time out, I waited a bit longer and had to deal with it perhaps not being long enough after my evening meal.

Despite all of that, it was still good, not necessarily fast, but some solid running. And then it was time for the first “long run” of the course. 6.44km.

Running graph

It’s the longest distance I’ve run since August last year and it felt really good throughout the whole run. In my mind, I’d told myself that I just wanted to keep the average pace below 9 min/km, and then wanted it to be less than hour and as it turns out, it was really very good!

They won’t all be like this, I know, but it’s so nice to have the good runs to remember why I keep on doing this stuff!
