At the weekend, Lukeh posted a great item on his blog, the age-old game of who you would invite for a dinner party. It never gets old because your tastes change, there are always new people to discover, and mostly because it is always fun. At the bottom of the post, Lukeh warns to give it some serious thought - if you’re going to be spending an entire evening with these people, you want to make sure they’re the right ones.

I did give it a lot of thought, and my thought process went something like this: well, I know who one of them would be, and another, and another. Wait a minute, those three are all girls! Lukeh doesn’t have any girls at his dinner party. Maybe I should have all girls.

So, here goes.

1. Miranda Hart

I love her. I really do. I think I first saw her on Not Going Out, where I didn’t pay too much attention because I was far too busy laughing at Lee Mack. The first series of Miranda, though, was excellent. Mr C says I like it because it reminds me of me. Clumsy? Check. Obsessed with words and how they sound? Check. Partial to Tom Ellis? Check.

The second series has been even better than the first, and I am moments away from owning them both via iTunes. Now I can watch Miranda whenever I want. But rather than just watch her, why not invite her to my party?

In interviews and suchlike, she seems lovely, polite, with amusing anecdotes about getting thrown about in the toilets on trains. What’s not to like?

2. Victoria Coren

I seem to recall my parents introduced me to Only Connect, and the first couple of times I watched it, I couldn’t even understand the format, let alone start making sense of the questions. I love the show, although I watch it less frequently towards the end of a run because the questions get harder as the contestants move towards the final. I am unlikely to get even one question right and that just makes me feel bad. I do enjoy attempting the walls on the website, though.

At my dinner party, she would be very well-spoken and have lots of clever things to say, I think. Most of which I probably wouldn’t understand. It would still be awesome though.

3. Claudia Winkleman

This year, I watched every single episode of the It Takes Two Strictly spin-off. To this day, I don’t know how I found the time or inclination. I like the dancing, but not THAT much. As it turns out, it is not the dancing that kept me hooked but Ms Winkleman herself. I also started watching Film 2010. At first I thought it was my new-found interest in films, but then I realised it was the revamp at work.

I had seen Jonathan Ross’ previous incarnation of the programme and didn’t think it was very engaging at all. With Claudia at the helm, it seems far more relaxed. That could be a whole post in itself, I reckon. Remind me later.

I don’t know what she would bring to the dinner party, because let’s face it, she’s ever so slightly bonkers**.** At least we know it would be lively.

4. Emma Thompson

Mostly because I suddenly realised that I love her far more than I knew.

5. David Tennant

I know. He’s not a girl, I know. I ran out of women I would like to invite, and I miss his lovely face. Would it be wrong to ask him to talk like the Doctor the entire evening too?
