A reason to like April
Published March 19, 2010
Doctor Who is returning to our screens on the 3rd April, and there is so much stuff floating about that I need a post to make sense of it all.
Firstly, the Beeb have released their press pack for the new series. Yay! I can’t believe it tells us anything we don’t already know, as people have been discussing the debut of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan since, well, forever. The statistics page is quite good, although it’s headed “10 things you didn’t know about Doctor Who” and has a fact for each incarnation of the Doctor. Someone is not good at maths.
I am very much enjoying the Digital Spy coverage of the countdown to April 3rd, which they have dubbed Whozapalooza! 2010. The rogue exclamation mark is slightly annoying, but the teasers, interviews, and pictures make up for that. The most important quote, for me, from the build up so far is:
Matt Smith is awesome as The Doctor. He’s funny, he’s charming, he’s clever, he is The Doctor. The episode is the perfect launch vehicle for him - daft alien threat aside - and it’s both dark and comedic.
It’s no secret I’ve been wary about Matt’s performance, and it’s all very well for Steven Moffat (are we really now calling him The Moff? Really?) to say he’s the best thing since sliced bread, but to hear it from a more independent source is much more reassuring.
Finally, if you want a bit more coverage, with filming pictures, launch stuff, and more, then the Blogtor Who blog is a great resource. I forget who introduced me to this, (it was either James or Lukeh, so I’ll thank both as they are way better than me at finding all the gossip) but it’s a great place to monitor the goings on without falling foul of any major spoilers.
When the series begins, I can’t promise not to talk about Doctor Who extensively, but better that than Glee, right?
