What would you bring?

Published January 12, 2010

A while ago, they finally debuted Desert Island Discs as a podcast via the BBC. It took a while to sort out due to rights restrictions both with the music played, and with the original format owners, but it’s there, available to download, hosted by Kirsty Young. I only listen to the people I’m interested in, such as the recent David Tennant episode, but it’s good to have the option. For some reason I have a mental block when it comes to radio via the iPlayer so podcasting is a good way for me to get this content.

Anyway, the point is, I was thinking about the songs, and the luxury item, and what I would say if I was on there. I am still thinking about it, in fact. Eight songs that mean a lot to me, plus one item that doesn’t communicate with the outside world (what no internet?) and wouldn’t get you off the island (what no boat?)

I will blog my answers when I come up with some, but I also wanted to throw it open to everyone and see what you would say if you were invited on the prestigious show. I’m particularly interested in the luxury item, but lists of songs are good too.

For anyone that doesn’t know about DID, the premise is:

Kirsty Young asks castaways to choose eight records, a book and a luxury to take with them to the mystical desert island.

Now have your say - what would you bring?
