Advent calendars without chocolate

Published December 2, 2009

Naturally, Christmas is all about chocolate, but as it is hard to consume the stuff via the internet, I have been looking at alternative advent calendars. There are quite a lot to choose from.

Firstly, a totally selfish plug first, we have the Sidepodcast F1 Advent Calendar 2009. If you’re slightly interested in Formula 1, each day of advent there will be a three minute podcast running through the key moments of the 2009 season. If you’re not interested in F1, the good stuff is coming up!

Good friend Alex, otherwise known as Giggles, has come up with the Giggles Advent Calendar, a short video each day with a Christmas pun in it. It is fair to say that Alex is the King of Puns, so this is definitely somewhere to bookmark.

On to more serious matters, and’s Big Picture has a Hubble Telescope advent calendar, with a new picture from the space telescope being published each day. They make my eyes go a bit funny, but are good pics.

Nikki from Canada has a very clever system of boxes containing a Christmas themed earring surprise for each day of Advent. A great idea for those with pierced ears!

Finally, for Doctor Who fans, the BBC have an Advent-ure Calendar, which I think is going to feature games and pictures and all kinds of lovely David Tennant related goodness. Eh-hem.

Are there any online calendars you’re keeping an eye on for Advent? Do share.
