One thousand portraits

Published May 28, 2009

Whilst I was searching Flickr for some cute baby panda photos, I came across this project called One Thousand Portraits.

Naturally, the premise is to take 1,000 pictures and it’s a very simple idea.

1,000 Photos

Our project is a true portrait of Britain created by photographing 1,000 people.

We stopped everyone who crossed our path on the streets of London, excluding nobody, asking the same question more than fifteen hundred times.

In a moment where recession is the main subject of every discussion, it was striking to come across such positive attitude.

This is the true face of Britain.

The only thing I would question about this statement is that London isn’t really a fair reflection of the “true face” of Britain. That being said, I still enjoyed the project.

I don’t spend an enormous amount of time browsing photos on Flickr, but couldn’t tear myself away from this set of strangers who allowed themselves to be photographed. I recommend having a look, even if you don’t go through the entire 1,000!
