Earth Day was about a month ago, and I misssed it. I didn’t feel particularly guilty at the time because it seems to be a US holiday, but everything since then has been telling me how green I should be.

Firstly, Boston.com’s Big Picture - which features sets of brilliant photos around a certain theme, if you’re not subscribed to this already, do so now - had some shots of Earth Day, which are really beautiful.

Sometimes I pop over to the local Boots at lunchtime. They used to provide recyclable paper bags to carry your meal deal in, but now they’ve gone one step further, and offered up a reusable cotton bag for £1. Bargain, of course, and very noble, but if I wander to and from the shop with my special £1 bag, people are gonna know that I’m too lazy to make my own lunch.

Next, I noticed that CNET started a new show called: The Green Show. I watch quite a lot of their stuff, and tuned into this one as well. It’s pretty good, all about making your electronics that little bit more friendly - or perhaps making smarter purchases in the first place.

Finally, I was broswing the BBC news site and came across a story about giraffes and how no one can figure out why their necks are so long. They thought it might be so they can reach the leaves, or that the long neck balances out their unfeasibly long legs. What they have figured is that it’s not to try and attract the opposite sex. All I know is they look silly when they’re trying to drink water.

The point is, I clicked on this story and it took me to this whole new Earth News BBC thing. It seems to be simply any news about the environment featured on a page with a green stylesheet, but it’s only just launched so there might be more coming soon. It did lead me to a video about pandas, so it gets the thumbs up from me.

Given that everything around me is going green, I have decided to try my hand at growing some kind of vegetable. Now, I don’t have a garden, I live in a flat, and I can’t grow things. This can only end well. I am shopping for seeds and… whatever else one needs to garden this week, so I will report back on my progress.
