From woefully under prepared, to more familiar and a bit brighter

This time last year, I was busy relaxing, writing, and pondering the future. Six months ago, I wrote about my return to work after a sabbatical that involved not finding my dream job but doing something just as worthwhile instead. I’m on a fixed term contract, and thus the future is still relatively uncertain. But for now, I’m glad I can get back to something of normality. Equally, I’m incredibly grateful I had the chance to take some time off.

My first week at my new job has been and gone, and it was mostly alright. I mean there was this, of course: …and that did go on for a couple of days, but I am not really complaining. It’s all good. On my first day, I was pondering some of the things that could really make a difference to your experience at an (office) job, but things you don’t get to know about until you start.

Monday, Monday, so good to me

Way back in February, I left the comfort of a good job with a vague idea of changing careers. It felt like the right time to do it and I knew I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to leave one job with time to look for another one - the right one - to come along. I went for a couple of interviews here and there, but was not particularly enamoured with what I found.
