Part of an ongoing, never-ceasing, seemingly endless switch from desktop to mobile

I’m writing this post in the Ulysses writing app which, I just learned, can connect to Wordpress and publish posts directly without having to interface with the awful Wordpress app. This is potentially the final stage in the “using the iPad for pretty much everything you need to do”, for which I have written a post previously and intend to write an update on very soon. And just to fully test, here’s a recent picture from the beach.

Wordpress helps you blog more (not wholly unselfishly)

Wordpress helps you blog more (not wholly unselfishly)

I’m really loving some of the features Wordpress are bringing out. I can’t remember if I already mentioned the Copy a Post feature before - but even if I have it bears repeating. I don’t quite know how I ever managed to live without it. For anyone who is not in the know, you simply find a post you want to replicate, click a button, and it brings up that post as a whole new one, so you can tweak to your hearts content.

Fun and games with Typekit

Fun and games with Typekit

If you’ve popped by this blog at any point over the past 24 hours or so, you may have noticed some wonky typeface situations. If you’ve been following the blog since the Squarespace incident, you’ll know that my only real gripe with Wordpress is that I couldn’t change the typeface from Georgia. I tried any number of solutions, including Typekit, the Wordpress CSS edit addon, and, of course, Squarespace. The less said about that the better.

The first of April - A day of fools

I’ve never really been a fan of April Fool’s Day. The concept of fooling people doesn’t really fill me with joy, particularly when at least 70% of the tricks are not that funny. As use of the internet becomes more prevalent, it’s getting even harder to like the idea. A good percentage of my day is spent trying to figure out what is real and what is not on the internet.

Under the weather

Under the weather

I haven’t had a proper cold for a long time, well over a year. The occasional sore throat descends upon me, and I always prepare for the worst, but then it just goes away. I don’t know whether that means I have a better constitution than I used to, or if I am just lucky enough to have already had all the germs that have been circulating recently, and therefore gained some useful antibodies.

Sorry seems to be the hardest word

Sorry seems to be the hardest word

I must say, being back on Wordpress is just like putting on your favourite jumper. It may not be pretty, but it’s warm and comforting. The Squarespace adventure was a bit of a disaster. I have never known such unfiltered spam to be allowed through. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, missing some kind of obvious step but no. The commenting system over there just isn’t up to scratch.

There can be only one... blogging platform

There can be only one... blogging platform

At least that’s the way it seems. An experiment to move I Heart Franck off Wordpress led me to Posterous, which is really good, but not for blogging. It’s great for uploading a picture or some kind of media and sharing it, which is what it is ultimately designed for. As you know, dissatisfied with Wordpress I made the transition to Squarespace, and have found it mostly good, but there is a significant spam commenting problem.

Five initial Squarespace impressions

Five initial Squarespace impressions

I’ve been getting more and more dissatisfied with Wordpress, and although I still maintain it is an excellent place to set up your first blog and start getting published, it’s limitations were beginning to get to me. In point of fact, all I wanted to do was to change the font on my template. Typekit fonts are a bit ahead of their time, whilst the Custom CSS function was not really accessible on the template I was using.

Please note: blog move imminent

Time for a change. This site is moving from Wordpress to Squarespace, and that means you’ll need to update your feed subscriptions and suchlike. Please visit: http://www.mrschristine.com for the new site. I’ll be waiting. (This will remain for a while, until I point Smarter Than at the new place.) A change is as good as a rest!

Do we though?

Do we though?

There’s a new feature from Wordpress called reblogging, and it was introduced via this blog post: We All Like to Reblog. First up, thanks for telling me what I like. Now, I have been really impressed with the sudden surge in development at Wordpress. New themes are appearing all the time, and it seems as though they are really investing in making the platform more interesting. That, in itself, could be of mild concern because we all know when new features start tumbling in, things usually start to go wrong.
