Rain, rain, rain today

Rain, rain, rain today

There are all sorts of weather apps available out there, from the quirky Carrot forecasts to the more staid Met Office offerings. Their use very much depends on how you like your weather forecasting – long range and high level, a broad overview of the country at large, or as I prefer, very localised to-the-minute weather predictions. That’s where Rain Today comes in. It’s a great app for one purpose – telling you whether it is raining, or whether it’s going to in the very near future.

Signs of spring, a photo or two

Signs of spring, a photo or two

I managed a quick visit to my parents over the weekend - something long overdue. We’ve had some unseasonably hot weather recently (although what is seasonable these days?) and it really felt like spring and summer were here to stay. Of course, today it’s cold, but that makes looking at these photos all the more pleasant. It’s always nice to visit my mum and dad’s garden as they put a lot of effort into it and the results are clear.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day

Mr C has instructed me to make a note of this conversation. Me: “I don’t know why it’s so hot.” Mr C: “It’s summer.” “I want winter back.” “No you don’t.” “I’ll never complain about being cold again. Next time I complain about it being cold, punch me in the face and remind me of this moment.” “Blog it, and I can link you back to it later.” I guess this is the 2.

The lightning round

The lightning round

Last night, I was awake at 1am due to some pretty vicious lightning and thunder cracking right over my head. Thankfully I was indoors, but for the couple of hours I was awake, I was not amused. At what point does lightning cease being awe-inspiring and become more of an annoyance? When I was a kid, massive storms were great fun. There was one particular day, I was waiting for a long distance friend to arrive.

New look weather account

New look weather account

After months of development, the BBC have launched their new Weather website, which is designed to have a lot more customisation, and be simpler to use. The first thing that strikes me is how much brighter and more welcoming the site appears, which is an intentional change. Of course, the design has also been implemented to ensure that the pages fit in with the rest of the new BBC look.

The white stuff

The white stuff

IT SNOWED!! Of course, I am much too unorganised to have snapped a picture of this momentous occasion. It is a bit of a phenomenon where I live, but of course, it’s also a bit of a nuisance. The snow covered my car, soaked through my gloves, and caused random pedestrians to slip off the road. It also took three times as long to get to work, for no apparent reason other than a bit of frozen rain, so perhaps nuisance isn’t a strong enough word.

It has turned

It has turned

The weather has taken a turn for the worse. Even though we occasionally get a sunny day and it’s lovely, you can tell that it is no longer summer. At some point this week, I was woken up by my alarm and it was still dull and pretty dark outside. How depressing. When it does get lighter, it’s not that bright and glorious summer sunshine, it’s a grey morning turning into a grey afternoon.

Estoy muy caliente

Estoy muy caliente

If I wanted to see this much sun, I would book a holiday to Spain. Well, first I would get myself a passport, but that is a trifling matter. It’s too hot. It’s too hot to write much. It’s too hot to post any pictures. It’s too hot to think up any more words, let alone 101 of them. It’s just too hot. In fact, the only thing it’s not too hot to do is sit in front of the television watching sweaty tennis players hit the ball between themselves, and dream about strawberries and cream.

Finally, I made it to the zoo

Finally, I made it to the zoo

After months of bad weather, I actually managed to get a nice, sunny day and one where I didn’t have to work. So, I hot-footed it to Marwell Zoo and spent a couple of hours there snapping pictures and looking at the cute animals. There were a million kids there, along with their mothers and the pushchairs. In fact, I’d go so far as to wager a bet that it was actually a pushchair convention, considering I don’t think I actually spotted anyone without one.

I'm going to be typically British and talk about the weather

I'm going to be typically British and talk about the weather

How unpredictable is the weather at the moment? This time last week it was pouring down with rain. Two days ago, it was so windy that I actually wanted to stay in the office rather than risk going outside. Today, it’s sunny as hell. In fact, I’ve been watching for signs of spring, but forget that, summer looks like it’s here. I would be happy about this if it weren’t for the fact that you can’t guarantee it will be like this tomorrow.
