2018 is all about self-improvement (and waiting for the weather to sort itself out for further adventures), and this month I wrapped up a new qualification that encompassed several exams and a lot of time staring at Microsoft applications. Is it wrong that I have mostly put in the time and effort for this award just because it makes me a master? Mastermind. The Master. Jedi Master. Take your pick, I’m it!

The new Windows 8 logo - it's a window into their creativity

The new Windows 8 logo was revealed today. I love Windows, I truly do, but it is an eyesore to say the least. I like that it’s a window instead of a flag. That’s a good thing. Previous iterations of the logo have not necessarily made sense. If my window was wibbling about the way those logos did then I’d be seriously concerned. However, the single colour is a radical change, and not particularly one for the better.

Get yourself Kinect-ed

Oh dear. I bet I’m not the only person to use that pun. Terrible. When Microsoft first announced the Kinect, did anyone else think it would never see the light of day? It seemed far too magical, a technology far greater than what we currently had, a step beyond what anyone would want in their homes. Think: Microsoft Surface. But here it is, launched in the States, and ready to break out across Europe today.

When they're good, they're very good

Ever since I saw Live Writer, I knew that Microsoft had it in them to be good. They know what they’re doing when it comes to marketing to the masses but for us geeky individuals, they leave a lot to be desired. Live Writer has the essence of greatness, in that everything you need to blog to many different platforms is all in one place and it is unbelievably easy to use.
