Picking the tunes with DJ Dench

Picking the tunes with DJ Dench

I pick and choose my way through Desert Island Discs, but the wonderful thing about it is the timeless nature of all the interviews. The BBC have made the full archive available indefinitely, so you can listen to anyone at any time. I subscribe to the podcast, but often don’t get around to listening until well after the interviews have been aired. I just recently listened to Dame Judi Dench’s show, and fell even more in love with her than I already was.

Guide to becoming a chocoholic

I was catching up with some recent Desert Island Discs episodes and the most recent conversation was with Julie Bentley. Ms Bentley is the Chief Executive of the Guide Association and she spent much of the talk with host Kirsty Young defending the concept of Girl Guides. Are they still relevant? Should they be modernising and discussing sex education as they apparently have recently, or rather preserving the youth of today?

Desert Island listening

I just wanted to write a quick post to say that the BBC have only gone and created a podcast feed for the Desert Island Discs archive. They said a while back that they’d be releasing a whole host of shows for indefinite download, but it wasn’t clear how they were going to do it. I discovered the podcast feed, which is a great way of looking through the ones you may or may not want.

My Desert Island Discs

Eight Songs The song choices are by far the hardest part. My mother left her choices on the previous post, and told me that it took her the best part of an hour to narrow it down to eight. I’m not sure how long I’ve spent thinking about this as I chose them over a period of several days, by writing one, then going away to ponder and picking it up again later.

What would you bring?

What would you bring?

A while ago, they finally debuted Desert Island Discs as a podcast via the BBC. It took a while to sort out due to rights restrictions both with the music played, and with the original format owners, but it’s there, available to download, hosted by Kirsty Young. I only listen to the people I’m interested in, such as the recent David Tennant episode, but it’s good to have the option. For some reason I have a mental block when it comes to radio via the iPlayer so podcasting is a good way for me to get this content.
