Eye to the Telescope by KT Tunstall

I was surprised how many of these songs I knew, turns out there were five singles from this one album! It’s great, KT is so talented, strong voice, great lyrics, and some nice singer/songwriter style tracks. Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See stand out but they’re all good. It’s definitely an album you can listen to over and over.

Dead Letters by The Rasmus

The Rasmus popped up twice in my radar in the same week which was a clear sign that I had to listen to one of their albums. Firstly, in the discussion of the retirement of ye olde iPods, I was reminsicing about some of the early songs I had listened to religiously on that amazing device. Then, of course, they popped up on Eurovision this year, with a really good rock song that didn’t perform that well overall. Nevertheless, I had to dig this album out and suddenly remembered how much I loved it! In the Shadows and Guilty are SO good, and the rest really stands up as some fab early 00s rock. More, please.

Out Of Nothing by Embrace

Out Of Nothing by Embrace

I’m surprised this album hasn’t popped up on my list before because Ashes and Gravity are two songs I totally loved when they were out and about at the time. As a full album, the rest doesn’t necessarily live up to the heights of those two openers, but it’s a good pop-rock joy to listen to. Apparently this album features the band’s first songwriting attempts as a band, which seems odd given it’s their fourth studio album!

Irish Son by Brian McFadden

Irish Son by Brian McFadden

I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting to like this one that much, as I already thought Irish Son was a great song and I’ve loved Almost Here with Delta Goodrem since I first heard it. The rest of the album totally stacks up - although I have to admit to not being surprised Guy Chambers had his hands all over it.

Two by The Calling

Two by The Calling

I love this album, not quite as much as the first from The Calling but really good. The first half I know very well, from a time when I would start listening to albums and get bored halfway through. So the first half is stacked full of tunes, and the second half, whilst it tails off for me, is still really good.

Hot Fuss by The Killers

Hot Fuss by The Killers

The Killers rocked their headline set at Glastonbury, so it was an easy pick to listen to one of their albums this week. And boy what an album. This has that amazing thing where there are multiple amazing songs next to each other and I just can’t believe that such greatness exists (tracks 2-5 obviously). But the whole thing works and stands the test of time.

American Idiot by Green Day

American Idiot by Green Day

Brilliant rock tunes, catchy, sing-a-long greatness with some heart-wrenching moments in there too – I can totally see why it was made into a musical. The structure of the album confuses me though, with some songs back to back on a single track.

Love. Angel. Music. Baby. by Gwen Stefani

This is more the Gwen I know and love. Gloriously irritating, who else could get away with chanting random fruit spellings at you? An eclectic mix of R&B and electric pop with oddities and intricacies to make each listen add something new.
