Angels With Dirty Faces by Sugababes

I really like the first album from the Sugababes, but this is arguably their first in the format that is most-associated with the Sugababes name. It’s stacked full of tunes - kicking off with Freak Like Me and piling in a good few other singles. I know Shape gets a lot of stick but I quite like it, the only problem with it is it’s one of those songs that doesn’t fit well in the album - not in its middle-of-the-listing position - but equally, I don’t know where it would fit. A good pop album though, and kicking off the Sugababes real rise to fame.

Dutty Rock by Sean Paul

This album vexes me on a few levels, but none are too bad. Overall, Sean Paul is excellent, talented, and iconic in his own way. I like to listen to the tracks as they were originally released, but the album on Apple Music was the re-release that capitalised on Beyoncé’s popularity - never mind, I went with it. It’s a long old album, with a couple of songs on their twice… and I can’t tell you how confusing it is to me that there’s a song called Shake That Thing, but it’s not the shake that thing song.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

Norah has a beautiful voice but this album is the epitome of easy listening. Smooth, calm, relaxing, there’s nothing to complain about other than it may go on just a tiny bit long. I really like Don’t Know Why, so it’s a good opener to the album, but the rest of it gets a bit lost in niceness.

This Is Me...Then by Jennifer Lopez

Yay for J-Lo! I do love this lady, and seeing her in action at the Super Bowl made me realise I need to do a bit more J-Lo on the album adventure. And then we saw her in Hustlers and that was that, time for an album!

Busted by Busted

What a journey I’ve been on listening to this album. At first, I was excited. I love Busted, who doesn’t? Then I was surprised. I know more of these songs than I expected. In fact, I know all of them! I must have owned this album when it was first release. Hoorah! And then I really listened. And you know what? This is one of those pieces of art that is actually kinda problematic the more time that passes.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera

I’ve sort of lost track of Christina Aguilera these days, but I did like her early stuff and this is a great album that showcases some of her best work. It’s long, which is my only real complaint, but even so it grabs you and takes you on a journey. I like that it’s not an album that tails off, although I have to admit the last track was probably my least favourite.

One by One by The Foo Fighters

I was surprised to read that the Foo Fighters fell out of love with this album because this is quintessential Foos to me. All My Life and Times Like These are fab tunes and propel the album on to more of the same. I enjoyed it, even if the band didn’t!

Let Go by Avril Lavigne

Wonderful pop-rock, teen angst without being depressing, catchy songs and solid lyrics – not so sure of the one where she raps though.
