I thought I’d like this far more than I did. Vince Clarke is a musical idol to me and I love the vocals of Alison Moyet, so together they must make magic, right? And it’s fair to say that Only You is up there with one of my favourite songs of all time. Unfortunately, the rest of it wasn’t quite so good.

New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) by Simple Minds

This album popped up because on Huey Lewis’ radio show, he claimed that Simple Minds were a one-hit wonder. Mr C found this quite offensive and then we realised I hadn’t done any of their albums! So, here we go! Woohoo, the 80s! It’s very firmly 80s in a good way, all the synths and sounds that make that decade what it is. I really enjoyed the album and actively want to listen to more from their back catalogue. Definitely not one-hit wonders!

Kissing to Be Clever by Culture Club

I know the main Culture Club classics but I don’t really know a lot else, so it was interesting to go back to the start of their journey and this debut album. Ultimately, it didn’t really work for me, it felt like they were throwing a lot of different ideas at the wall and seeing what stuck.
