Be Altitude: Respect Yourself by The Staple Singers

I can’t remember why this album was next on the to-listen list, but whilst listening during the week, we then also watched the episode where Mavis Staples pops up on Carpool Karaoke and they sing I’ll Take You There. Amazing. That song is the standout of the album, but overall it’s a good soul/gospel album with some incredible vocals and some heartfelt themes.

Baby I'm-A Want You by Bread

Two things happened that made Bread this week’s album. My dad suggested them as a band I hadn’t experienced yet, and then Everything I Own was featured on a TV show and I realised how much I love that song without knowing who the artist was. As soon as I saw it was Bread, the two things clicked into place and thus, time for a 1970s soft-rock album. It was really good, that song stood out, and I was a bit annoyed at the concept of the song Diary - don’t read people’s diaries - but very 70s in the best way, a nice gentle album to get you through the week.

Transformer by Lou Reed

It’s amazing I haven’t listened to this before, it’s an iconic album. I was a bit worried, because I obviously know Perfect Day from the BBC collective version and have that so firmly in my mind that I wasn’t sure the original was going to be as good. Of course it was, and combine that with Walk on the Wild Side and Satellite of Love, and what a stellar album you’ve got on your hands.
