I really liked this album, Bastille have such a unique sound, well, Dan Bastille’s voice is the real driver of that and it shines through in this collection of songs. There’s a slightly odd feel to the lyrics - a lot of dreaming to take away the pain of real life, and many, many cultural references focused on films. It’s not perfect, leaning just a bit too much towards oddity, and way too short, but I enjoyed it.

The last album from Bastille was alright, but it annoyed me the volume of talky bits, radio excerpts, that kind of thing. I’m sure it was arty and important but it didn’t make for much fun listening. This one, thankfully is free of those things, and I actually really enjoyed it.

Listened to an older Bastille album just two weeks ago, and it’s interesting to hear the differences. Still a good album, still full of the drums and drama, but with more of an edge to it. Found the radio inserts a bit odd, but enjoyed the album from start to finish.

I was worried about listening to this because Pompeii is such a storming tune, how can you expand on the brilliance of it? I needn’t have worried, the rest of the album is great too. Whilst it doesn’t quite match up to the opener, it’s still full of drums and drama, intriguing lyrics and the intensity to carry you through to the end.
