0:44I like the statue turning into a statue, fun!
2:00Losing a point for using Whitney’s song in a movie… unless he’s watching The Bodyguard.
5:52Zendaya bringing the VPN tips.
8:05“If you don’t talk to him, I’ll have to talk to him. I don’t want to talk to him.”
10:05Peter tingle!!
18:16Just now realised I don’t want to go to Venice because I will be that person dropping everything in the water.
20:47Nooo, stop wrecking Venice, it has enough problems!
25:44“Being a man of science… witches.”
28:57Samuel L is SO GOOD.
32:07“Don’t ever apologise for being the smartest one in the room.”
35:37They’re not actually going to Prague though? American movies don’t go to Prague.
36:51Even Dead I’m The Hero. This guy…
44:01Loving Mysterio. Although Jake looks like the Peter Parker from Spiderverse which is confusing me.
53:15That’s JUST like a game level - hit him with the rock, then shoot him.
57:20“I’m not 21,” he says, as though he’s not in Europe where there are more sensible rules.
1:14:55“He didn’t tell me, I figured it out.” SHE RULEZ.
1:22:47So that was the ten minutes of CGI showing off.
1:32:37FOS.
1:33:05SOUTH WEST COAST PATH!!
1:36:59His little spider-chute is adorable.
1:38:42Electric webs too. Did the makers just play the game too much or are they supposed to be connected?”
1:39:03I’m sorry, Maria Hill doing overwatch from the Shard? This film just stepped it up a notch.
1:41:52“How does Cap do that?” Happy is brill too.
1:47:54“Execute them all,” is a dodgy thing to say to something with so many weapons.
1:59:23WAIT. This post-credits sequence or mid-credits sequence or whatever. It’s mindblowing. It’s what we said above about executing them. It’s J Jonah like the game. It’s Peter Parker being revealed. WHAT IS HAPPENING.

Thoughts

So many muddled thoughts after this one. Firstly, it felt too soon after Avengers. I needed more time to process what had happened, and I don’t get why this movie is the end of the current phase rather than the huge epic that Avengers was.

And then, I’ve been so in love with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, he’s been the best thing in the Avengers for a while, but this one didn’t quite hit the same mark. I guess he’s changed since the events of the previous Marvel movies.

It really felt like a difficult first half of the movie, some of the equality decisions didn’t sit well - Parker’s slightly creepy attitude towards the clearly brilliant MJ, and the fact that in Mysterio’s gang of villains, the man does the computer stuff and the woman steams the dress.

But it did start to recover. Sometimes, during a movie, we’ll shout 5!! Because it clearly deserves five points. This movie started out as a 1, and then gradually crept up and down and edged up again, it was a rollercoaster of points throughout.

Two other troublesome things for me were the clear ten minutes of VFX fun and games - Mr C has always had a problem with these, where the plot does not advance at all but you just get a visual overload because they can. And then, I really have an issue with films where you can’t believe what you’re seeing. The Mission Impossible face masks create similar issues. Twist and turn as much as you want but I have to know what I’m looking at.

Although this all sounds negative, by the end I was enjoying it. They are great characters and work together well as a team, there were some moments of pure genius - Happy and the London Bridge bit was fantastic - but as a whole it wasn’t the best. I’m glad for a rest from Marvel for a bit now, if I’m honest.
