John Carney’s Dublin movies are really good, and I wonder it’s taken us this long to watch this one. The music is obviously fantastic, and it’s nice to see a different side to Dublin rather than the more glamorous and Guinness-soaked side. It was relaxing and chilling, and a nice story.

The script is the weakest bit though. It’s a nice story, but it’s not a long story and although it’s a short film it still feels as though he’s doing his best to fill the time. The songs go on just a bit longer than feels natural for a movie - as though it is more like five or six music videos linked together.

And oof, it’s as indie as it could possibly be. I know it was made on a shoestring budget but some of it was of really poor quality. I mean it wasn’t too many years later that we were making far better videos for Sidepodcast… and that was on a zero budget.

But hey, I’ve never made a full length movie. And as I said, the music is great, the main duo exceptionally talented, and I really enjoyed their chemistry. I also liked that it wasn’t your traditional sappy ending. Ultimately, it’s a nice film but Carney’s follow up works are better.
