Thoughts

I previously wrote about the fact that we missed the rental window for Ant-Man & the Wasp, and you know what? In the end we just bought the film. We were in the mood for it and we desperately want to see Captain Marvel and this one was hanging over our heads, in the way.

Weirdly, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I liked the first one, and it’s Paul Rudd for crying out loud, but I just felt a bit meh about it. Thankfully, the movie was really good. Funny, emotional in places, and with a good story that makes sense. There was that usual bit of “what the hell is going on I don’t remember any Marvel movies I’m going to have to watch all of them again” thing which was kinda annoying, but once past that, it was great.

I like that the “big bad” wasn’t really a badun, that always adds an extra layer to the story and I was really happy that The Wasp was such a big part of it - first woman to be in the title of a Marvel movie, so things are definitely changing. Also, impressed with Rudd’s ability to act like a woman is inhabiting his body in a way that is funny, sure, but not ridiculous. That’s a fine line.

Anyway, great stuff, except that post-credits sequence that really knocked the whole thing flat. Bloody Thanos.
