Title: Early Man Director: Nick Park Year: 2018 Run time: 1hr 29m
“Early Man is the new prehistoric comedy adventure from director Nick Park and Aardman. Shot in Aardman’s own distinctive style, the film will take audiences on an extraordinary journey into an exciting new world unleashing an unforgettable tribe of unique and funny new characters voiced by an all-star British cast. Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home.”
1:36 - I like the idea of near Manchester long before Manchester ever existed. 3:42 - So that’s what Stonehenge is for! 8:54 - A rock for a friend is a heavy one to carry around. 14:40 - I like the idea that because you have found metal, you make EVERYTHING metal. 17:17 - Amazing door security. We need that. 18:45 - “Voluntary contribution, everyone has to pay.” 21:27 - Holy football. 23:44 - The grass is really good. 27:02 - “Noooooooooo, what’s a mine?” 28:24 - The rabbit’s the best thing in it. 32:53 - Message birds are funny. 39:32 - The chairs are like dominos but you don’t have to keep putting them back up. 41:50 - The angry pan girl. 46:54 - “No one gets past his tackle.” 48:38 - Training montage. 58:47 - Royal football commentators. I wonder if they do other events too. 1:00:54 - What is up with the giant duck? 1:04:06 - Puppet replay! Love it. 1:06:30 - “It’s like early man… united.” 1:15:32 - Comedy bronze!
This was exactly what I thought it would be, and perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon when you want something simple to enjoy. It’s not as good as the highs of Chicken Run or the wonder of Wallace and Gromit, but it’s a nice story with some fun dialogue and occasional moments of comedy bronze!
Not much more to say, really. Feel-good, inoffensive, not worth making a special effort for but if it’s there for you to watch, sit back and enjoy!
