0:47Marvel stuff genuinely fills me with dread now. I’m not going to remember it all!
2:51Good funny start though. Have faith Christine.
6:46“Behold… my stuff.”
10:27Play within a film is kinda awesome.
24:09Oh my god, she broke the hammer. This is not good.
28:44They are like sand people.

30:32She is kick-and-then-some-ass.
40:51Sparkles!
48:10“Have I said enough or would you like me to go back further than the last two days?”
49:40I am totally in love with the rock dude, and therefore worried about his welfare.
51:30Stan Lee has gone so rogue!
52:47Short hair Thor is what I’m talking about.
1:01:58IDRIS! So many hearts.
1:12:53“But me, I choose to run towards my problems…”
1:13:03“…because that’s what heroes do.”
1:13:05I swear Thor didn’t used to be this funny.
1:28:57Poor Bruce, his is potentially the worst of the superpowers.
1:39:07I would only do damage to myself wearing Hela’s headdress.
1:52:05“I’m not doing ‘get help’.”

Thoughts

I did go into this film with a real sense of misgiving, I just didn’t want to watch. That’s what Marvel has done to me, the far-reaching universe has overwhelmed. Having said that, I should have had some faith, because this current phase we’re in (third?) has been pretty good. Ant-Man was funny, Deadpool hilarious, Guardians of the Galaxy a real treat. So I should have had more faith.

And having seen the film, I really had nothing to worry about. It’s funny from start to finish, with great characters fleshed out even more than they have been previously. It took us longer than the two hours to get through it all, as we kept having to pause and go back and rewatch the funny.

There’s a real light-hearted feeling about this one, despite the fact that Hela is potentially causing as much death and destruction as she can. It’s quite nice that there’s no great threat to Earth for a change, and it’s fun to have a new bunch of characters to make their own Guardians-like gang. And I have so much love for Valkyrie and Korg.

Really good times.

Revisited May 21

I love the change in the feeling of Thor films - freed from the constraints of Earth and trying to keep a relationship alive with a human, Thor takes flight. The start of this film made me dislike Dr Strange a little bit, but once he was out the way things got better.

I felt quite detached from the Hela storyline, she was evil and obviously the destruction of Asgard is hugely important for what comes next. But Hela was over-the-top and her antler headgear offputting, particularly when compared with all the brilliance of Thor and Hulk/Bruce, Valkyrie and The Grandmaster. I could have done with more of that and less of the other, but still, better to be left wanting more than hating what you see.

And Korg. So much love for darling Korg.
