“Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, and Kevin Hart lend their voice talents to this action/adventure comedy taking a hilarious look into the lives of Pets. Set in a Manhattan apartment building, pets gather to start their day as the two-legged residents head for work and school. The head hound is a quick-witted terrier rescue, whose position at the epicenter of his master’s universe is suddenly threatened when she comes home with Duke, a sloppy mongrel with no polish. The two soon find themselves on the mean streets of New York, where they meet the adorable white bunny Snowball. It turns out that Snowball is the leader of an army of pets that were abandoned and are determined to get back at humanity and every owner-loving pet. The dogs must thwart this plot and make it back in time for dinner.”
0:48 – Start a film with Taylor and Mr C will give it a five, for sure. 4:20 – The puppy was way cuter, that’s the trouble with animals, I find. 5:33 – The bird with the fan is really cool. I wish I could do that! 7:43 – Also loving the fat cat. Turkey and cake, mmm. 10:59 – Great hair animation on Duke. 14:31 – “As your friend, I gotta be honest with you, I don’t care about you or your problems.” 18:10 – Retractable leashes are funny. 20:39 – “The thunder! And the lightning!” 22:13 – The po-po. 26:19 – Yay for the carrot key! 28:35 – Hardcore bunny is a great character. 30:29 – “You’re a very thoughtful food.” 32:23 – Queen song! 34:26 – I mean, I’m gonna call it now and say crocodiles are not pets. 38:54 – Even in adorable animal films, snakes are horrible! 41:55 – Mario turtle reference, ha! 49:03 – Do people actually attach Go-Pros to their dogs? 58:23 – “Uh, that’s kinda hard to dispute.” 1:08:49 – The bus has a Sing poster on the back! 1:12:11 – So Jurassic Park. 1:20:59 – Minion dog!!
Good little film this. It’s exactly what you expect it’s going to be - cats and dogs being cute, going on adventures, making a few jokes, and finding a happy ending. I wasn’t sure what the story was, and in the end it was exactly like Toy Story, but the characters were different and entertaining, which made it worth watching.
Kevin Hart as Snowball the not-so-terrifying gangster bunny was absolutely brilliant, and Jenny Slate had Gidget down perfectly as both irritating but also kick-ass and brave. Loved it, and it being a kids film and so short means that it’s the perfect hangover watch.
