Like most teenage girls, Minnie Goetze (Bel Powley) is longing for love, acceptance and a sense of purpose in the world. Minnie begins a complex love affair with her mother's (Kristen Wiig) boyfriend, 'the handsomest man in the world,' Monroe Rutherford (Alexander Skarsgård). What follows is a sharp, funny and provocative account of one girl's sexual and artistic awakening, without judgment.

0:45 – I don’t know how she managed that, given those hideous trousers. 5:26 – How can you take anyone seriously with a bird on their head? 10:17 – “I was afraid to pass up the chance because I may never get another.” Ah, youth. 14:04 – Fold out camera is interesting. Wood effect not so much. 15:54 – Playing the guessing game because your sister is listening at the door.
I wanted to like this one because I really like Bel Powley and Kristen Wigg.
But oof, it was just too seventies.
