1:46 - Love someone taking credit for Mmm Bop. 3:49 - “How was I to know it would change the very fabric of our existence?” 6:01 - Lougle. Wonder if he’s change his logo recently. 13:36 - That coat check girl is crazy pretty. 15:35 - “I stole TIME.” 15:46 - Woop, BTTF reference. 22:32 - President Neil Patrick Harris. 25:01 - Lots of movie references and I’m so proud to be getting most of them. 27:41 - The timeline skewed into this tangent! 28:46 - I am so saying high five instead of actually doing it in future. 35:46 - Fourth wall. 37:02 - Smart Smart car. 56:38 - He is awful, I’m glad everyone in the film knows it. 59:53 - “You’re the one that doesn’t have a rock bottom.” 1:10:02 - If you’ve got a catchphrase, do it, even if it’s a dance! 1:14:39 - Forgive or kill. Hmm. 1:22:12 - “People are shooting each other. I’m getting out of here.” 1:28:10 - Yes, the moon!
The first HTTM wasn’t exactly a rousing success (“Not a great film, but moments of brilliance and certainly worth watching, if you can cope with it.") and I wasn’t expecting the second to be any better. In fact, I was actively expecting it to be worse as the trailer looked shocking. I’m not totally sure why I even watched it, other than for that sense of completeness and because it was an easy-going watch for a wine-fuelled evening.
Anyway, I had low expectations and amazingly, it was even worse than I could ever predicted. There were, perhaps, two moments where I thought, that’s good, but otherwise it wasn’t funny, it was lazy, it relied too much on remembering the good things from the first film (which I couldn’t), and the character of Lou is just too odious to actually hang another entire film around.
Terrible, bad, avoid. I’ve watched it so you don’t have to.
