2:41 - The daughter is a catty little thing. 5:40 - Little Words With Friends plug there. 8:20 - She has a point but it’s hard to argue with med school and law school. 12:04 - “We spent the whole evening trying not to.” 14:50 - I would fail this test in a million ways. 42 something Hobokun. 22:17 - I couldn’t physically keep that a secret from Mr C, such a blabbermouth. 27:46 - Telling the family must be the hardest thing. Especially the genetic thing. 33:53 - “Would you unpack that for me?” Didn’t know there was business speak at universities too! 36:12 - It’s a good excuse. 40:47 - She’s very clever, that’s a whole elaborate plan. 45:56 - That photo album has moving pictures… like Harry Potter! 55:29 - I’ve already outsourced my brain to my phone. 1:01:56 - “It’s like a chicken but it’s not.” Surprisingly moving sentence. 1:10:37 - I need to give the Alzehimer’s charities all my money. 1:20:53 - Being talked about when you’re still in the room.. tough times. 1:35:45 - Brightest credits ever. Way to take you out of the moment.
Totally brutal but brilliant. Alzehimer’s is such a tough disease and watching the gradual descent of anyone, let alone someone so young and so talented, was intensely hard to watch. It was also interesting to see how the family reacted, how the “wayward” daughter was eventually the one that stepped up, how the situation with regards to hereditary diseases can throw a family into turmoil.
Definitely worth watching, with some great performances from everyone involved, but particularly of course Julianne Moore. It’s hard going though, so make sure you’ve got a box of tissues nearby!
