Like most of the Marvel Universe fans, I wasn’t sure about the Guardians. Hadn’t heard of any of them, and my tolerance for the more off-the-wall things isn’t as high as it probably should be. When everyone suddenly said it was the best film ever, that raised my spirits, and seeing as we were always going to watch it anyway, I couldn’t wait.
It took me a good while to really get into it. Almost to the point where the group were sat around discussing the big plan and that it might be the death of them. That’s more than halfway through the film. But once I got it, it was brilliant, and I absolutely intend to go back and watch it all again being on board with everything.
Things I loved anyway included the incredible music, what a great Awesome Mix it was. Also, although the first seen with Quill as a child was heartbreaking, it was also an origin story that took about five minutes to complete. I have a lot of love for that. Bradley Cooper was brilliant, and Saldana was fab. The lines where they took everything literally were top notch.
So, not an immediate five out of five, but a film that had to work its way into my heart. Once it did though, there was no looking back.

Not too much to add on the above, but rewatching it now knowing what to expect meant it was even better. It’s the first time the series really tries something a bit different, and paves the way for experimentation later like WandaVision. I really, really liked the prison break-out scene on this second viewing, it shows each character off perfectly but also how they can work together despite being so vastly different. Brilliant stuff.
