Title: The Love Punch Director: Joel Hopkins Year: 2013 Run time: 1hr 34m
“A divorced couple scheme to recover the retirement money that was stolen from them.”
0:46 - Is it wrong that I only ever want Pierce to drink martinis? 2:05 - “Taking your laptop into the garden is not getting out there.” 10:11 - Going through the diary on the train platform is very efficient. 15:15 - That has to be fake Skype, it’s far too clear for full screen. 16:26 - Loving the description “horribly wrong.” 19:42 - Oh god, how badly I want to be Emma Thompson. 23:40 - All Right Now helps her to drive. Amazing. I wonder what my song would be. 30:18 - See, I didn’t find Paris that romantic. Maybe have to go back and double check. 36:59 - Those banana boat things have always been slightly terrifying. 38:17 - “Think of your wedding as a driving test, you take it, you pass, and then you really learn how to drive.” 42:59 - Waiting at arrivals, you can’t get to the baggage bit. Too much time in airports this year. 49:49 - I’m sure he just did the James Bond thing, gun to the opposite shoulder. 51:04 - Seems a bit harsh to have taped up those people for such a long time. 1:04:16 - That’s me. Highly original and highly strung. 1:05:16 - “It’s easy to say I love you when you’re rolling around on expensive sheets, it’s so much harder when it comes time to wash them.” 1:17:12 - Oh gawd, I didn’t know how they were going to get out of that. 1:20:23 - “She’s with a Frenchman.” One day Mr C will have to say that about me. 1:23:19 - I want THAT Frenchman.
The trailer for this looked good, and I love Emma Thompson, but I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting it to be a great film. It was so much fun, I was totally wrong! It was silly, four grown ups who should really know better throwing themselves into a French kidnap/jewel thief crime but oh, how entertaining.
The pair of them squabbling with each other was good, even if the inevitable conclusion was obvious from the start. Timothy Spall as the sidekick friend was very amusing, and them all being in France just added to the joy. Not groundbreaking but really brilliant, and definitely one we could watch over again.
