Guy Ritchie, writer/director of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, delivers another awe-inspiring directorial masterpiece, SNATCH - an edgy and hilarious film about a diamond heist gone wrong, a colorful Irish gypsy-turned-prize fighter...and a very temperamental dog. In the heart of gangland, two novice unlicensed boxing promoters, Turkish (Jason Statham) and Tommy (Stephen Graham), get roped into organizing a rigged bare-knuckle fight with local kingpin/villain and fellow boxing promoter Brick Top (Alan Ford). But all goes wrong when wildcard Irish gypsy boxer One Punch Mickey O'Neil (Brad Pitt) starts playing by his own rules, and the duo find themselves heading for a whole lot of trouble.

Background Info

I rented this from the iTunes store - I think it was one of the 99p film of the weeks. I wasn’t convinced about watching it, I’m not usually a fan of the more gangster style of film. I’ll give anything a chance though!

Live Blog

00:00:38 - I get the feeling this film might be a bit violent. 00:02:07 - How did I not know Brad Pitt was in this? 00:05:48 - This is a lot of characters all at once. I can’t remember them! 00:06:03 - Is that Frank Butcher? 00:07:51 - If they cleaned the caravan it would help a bit. Wouldn’t fix the door though. 00:09:39 - There are some really bad glasses in this film. 00:11:48 - This is quite a slow starting film. Some diamonds, some pigs, meh. 00:17:22 - There’s my Brad. Is he being Irish? 00:22:48 - Ooh, that’s like an Eastenders cliffhanger. 00:24:46 - Woah, Benicio del Toro and Brad Pitt look the same. 00:27:30 - Even I could get into that parking space. 00:29:10 - He did survive then. How did he manage that? 00:29:57 - I do like the direction in this film, even if I don’t really get it. 00:34:47 - “I’m coming to London.” Quick shot of Concorde. Job done. ****00:39:32 - Does this bookie thing have to do with the boxing thing? 00:40:02 - Ah. Brad Pitt fighting. It’s all gone a bit Fight Club. ****00:56:02 - Just been reading Hannibal. There are nasty pigs in that too. 00:58:17 - The obligatory Vinnie Jones. 01:06:06 - I think I like the coloured shirts with white collars look. ****01:13:17 - Being hit by a car would make you a bit mad. 01:17:45 - I think I’ve been getting confused between Boris and Avi. 01:23:50 - Ha! I would be freaked out by a squeaking dog too. 01:29:49 - Why do they bother having a fight if they already fixed it? 01:32:49 - Not really a fan of all the fighting stuff? 01:38:27 - Does he not notice the dog is squeaking? Oh… he does. 01:39:40 - Didn’t he say never go to England when he came back?

Conclusions

I wasn’t really a fan of the story. I was mostly quite confused throughout, and as mentioned above, I mixed up two of the characters which didn’t help. I did like some of the characters though and the format of the film appealed.
