Guy Ritchie, writer/director of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, delivers another awe-inspiring directorial masterpiece, SNATCH - an edgy and hilarious film about a diamond heist gone wrong, a colorful Irish gypsy-turned-prize fighter...and a very temperamental dog. In the heart of gangland, two novice unlicensed boxing promoters, Turkish (Jason Statham) and Tommy (Stephen Graham), get roped into organizing a rigged bare-knuckle fight with local kingpin/villain and fellow boxing promoter Brick Top (Alan Ford). But all goes wrong when wildcard Irish gypsy boxer One Punch Mickey O'Neil (Brad Pitt) starts playing by his own rules, and the duo find themselves heading for a whole lot of trouble.

0:38I get the feeling this film might be a bit violent.
2:07How did I not know Brad Pitt was in this?
5:48This is a lot of characters all at once. I can’t remember them!
6:03Is that Frank Butcher?
7:51If they cleaned the caravan it would help a bit. Wouldn’t fix the door though.
9:39There are some really bad glasses in this film.
11:48This is quite a slow starting film. Some diamonds, some pigs, meh.
17:22There’s my Brad. Is he being Irish?
22:48Ooh, that’s like an Eastenders cliffhanger.
24:46Woah, Benicio del Toro and Brad Pitt look the same.
27:30Even I could get into that parking space.
29:10He did survive then. How did he manage that?
29:57I do like the direction in this film, even if I don’t really get it.
34:47“I’m coming to London.” Quick shot of Concorde. Job done.
39:32Does this bookie thing have to do with the boxing thing?
40:02Ah. Brad Pitt fighting. It’s all gone a bit Fight Club.
56:02Just been reading Hannibal. There are nasty pigs in that too.
58:17The obligatory Vinnie Jones.
1:06:06I think I like the coloured shirts with white collars look.
1:13:17Being hit by a car would make you a bit mad.
1:17:45I think I’ve been getting confused between Boris and Avi.
1:23:50Ha! I would be freaked out by a squeaking dog too.
1:29:49Why do they bother having a fight if they already fixed it?
1:32:49Not really a fan of all the fighting stuff?
1:38:27Does he not notice the dog is squeaking? Oh… he does.
1:39:40Didn’t he say never go to England when he came back?

Thoughts

I rented this from the iTunes store - I think it was one of the 99p film of the weeks. I wasn’t convinced about watching it, I’m not usually a fan of the more gangster style of film. I’ll give anything a chance though!

I wasn’t really a fan of the story. I was mostly quite confused throughout, and as mentioned above, I mixed up two of the characters which didn’t help. I did like some of the characters though and the format of the film appealed.
