1:05 - Love that the idents are trying to look 70s-esque. 3:53 - He is wearing a velvet suit. Fuzzy. 9:04 - Will there be a time when we look back on the seventies fashion and think it looks good? 10:33 - Elaborate is a great way to describe the combover. Great way to describe things in general. 22:25 - “I put out the fire!” Always a good excuse. 25:57 - British Amy Adams is freaking me out a little bit. 30:39 - Meanwhile, Bradders as cop is pretty impressive. Versatile chap. 37:31 - “Not black and white, like you say. Extremely grey.” 39:49 - More mayors should have massive quiffs. 41:08 - You can’t tell your boss to shhh. 48:15 - Cos, you can almost see the self control in the room. 49:34 - “I’m from the Bronx.” Ohh, Jenny has ruined all of the Bronx. 53:12 - His and hers curlers. 58:25 - It’s all gone a bit John Travolta. 1:03:52 - Hold the phone, there was a time before microwaves?? 1:06:06 - Science oven! 1:11:06 - “I’m only nosy because you can never tell me anything.” 1:18:27 - De Niro, playing a mafia guy, shocker! 1:29:39 - That’s a step above just shhing his boss. 1:40:34 - The ice fishing story is amazing. 1:55:42 - Fun soundtrack. Seventies, I guess. 1:58:07 - Isn’t this entrapment and stuff? That’s not legal is it? 2:12:23 - I don’t like Bradders being on the outside at the end. Boo con people.
I didn’t particularly want to watch this film. A fantastic cast and what looked like a good concept, but my god, have you seen those seventies looks? I wasn’t keen on seeing my Bradley all dolled up with a perm, but in the end, the strong lineup of acting supremacy convinced me.
It was an enjoyable two hours, there’s no doubt about that, but am I revealing myself as stupid to say I really couldn’t follow what was going on? I had a vague sense of them getting deeper and deeper into a con, with many different sides getting involved, but I couldn’t follow what the actual plan was and whether it was working or not.
The cast were hugely impressive and there was some great acting on display, but overall it left me more confused than anything else.
