Title: Forrest Gump Director: Robert Zemeckis Year: 1994 Run time: 2hrs 22m
“You’ll never view the world the same way after seeing it through the eyes of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), a simpleminded man who finds himself in the middle of nearly every major event of the 1960s and ‘70s. Along the way, he makes friends, changes lives and searches for a soulmate. Winner of six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Hanks).”
0:43 - I remember watching a behind the scenes thing about how they did the feather thing. Blew my mind at the time. 3:45 - Choklit. 7:24 - I do like the houses with the big balcony terrace things. 8:26 - “What does normal mean anyway?” 15:36 - It’s weird a guy just starts telling his life story at a bus stop. 18:36 - Love the accent. Nap is like nayap. 22:28 - “College was very confusing times.” 29:36 - The stop signs for him on the football field are brilliant. 32:40 - Bubba just tells his whole life story to a stranger too. Odd. 41:54 - “When we win this war and take over everything…” Not the best attitude! 46:56 - Monsoon season looks really hard to survive outside in. 55:04 - The wide eyes as he runs out of the forest with an airstrike behind him are chilling. 1:03:35 - That camera Forrest has looks a lot like the small cameras today. 1:09:04 - Forrest rage! 1:13:38 - Lots of ponchos in DC at that time. 1:17:35 - “I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for him.” 1:26:17 - Sally Field really does the various ages brilliantly. 1:35:53 - As terrifying as Dan’s position on the top of the mast is, it also looks kinda refreshing. 1:42:25 - Ye olde colourful Apple logo. 1:53:45 - I wish I could just run like that. 1:57:49 - Maybe not for three years though. 2:11:49 - The two Forrests are just so cute.
I’ve seen this many times before, it’s one of the few films I’d watch over and over on DVD when I was younger. I even watched a lot of the extras to learn all about green screening and that kind of fun and games.
It’s such a good film, feel good and funny after all this time, heart-wrenching in places but ultimately a nice movie with a happy ending. Quotable in so many places, I’d forgotten a lot of them but they all came flooding back. It’s long, and I don’t always get on with long films, but I was feeling under the weather and this was the perfect film to fill the gap.
I hadn’t realised it was Robin Wright from House of Cards playing Jenny, so that has connected some dots for me. Otherwise, it was all about Tom Hanks, doing what he does best!
