Title: 101 Dalmations Director: Stephen Herek Year: 1996 Run time: 1 hr 34
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this one before, but I know the sequel had Ioan Gruffudd in it, and I like him. I’m not enormously keen on dogs, but I figured this one couldn’t be as corny as Beethoven.
00:01:07 - Ooh, a milkman. Don’t see many of them these days. 00:01:51 - All that time I spend trying to wake Mr C up, I just need a dalmation. 00:03:02 - Isn’t that Richard Hillman off of Corrie? 00:03:35 - Jeff Daniels just makes me think of Speed. I must watch that soon. 00:05:52 - That is a really nice car. 00:07:20 - Why would you design a coat of your pet’s fur in the first place? I blame her. 00:13:03 - Blimey, who knew a dog could cause so much chaos? I thought dogs were supposed to be smart. 00:17:02 - “I read it on your dog’s ID tag.” Quite the pick up line. 00:19:55 - What are the chances of her telling her boss she had no love prospects and then finding a man the same day? 00:22:52 - There are no other dalmations in the dog congregation. 00:24:24 - Hehe, henchmen are so funny. 00:26:44 - Not really a fan of the fur, particularly when there’s a face on it! 00:31:05 - I secretly heart that reaction to the baby announcement. 00:35:08 - She has that Art book that everyone has on their shelves. She is a designer though, I suppose. 00:37:29 - How is it possible that Cruella can just walk into their house? Don’t they have locks? 00:40:14 - She could sue her for unfair dismissal - fired for not selling puppies. 00:48:32 - She has quite an amazing evil laugh. 00:52:53 - I like that they have a pig helping, although I can’t imagine what a pig could actually do. 01:00:11 - She has only just realised what the dastardly plan is? Good lord, not the sharpest tool in the book. 01:03:36 - Blimey, that bird couldn’t look more fake. 01:05:45 - I would have thought that Lucky plays a bigger part in it, but it’s all about Whizzer. 01:09:48 - Ooh, he froze. That’s just like my favourite bit of The Day After Tomorrow. 01:21:37 - Ah, so that’s what the pig was for. 01:30:40 - There is no way that 84 other puppies have gone missing and not been enquired after. 01:33:43 - Their feed bills must be horrendous.
I was with it until the dogs all started barking at each other in some kind of secret underground dog network. The initial story about how they got together, how the puppies came to be, and how Cruella formed her plan was much more interesting than the end payoff. It’s a bit corny, but well meaning, I guess.
