There hasn’t been a massive amount of choice of rentals in iTunes over the past few weeks. This one charted quite highly when it arrived on the store, and it has some big names in it, so we figured it was worth a watch. I hadn’t really heard anything about it, and there was a lot of time between when we watched the trailer and saw the film, so I’d forgotten what to expect as well.
1:54 - The running club thing freaks me out a bit. Great for motivation but… all those other people! 4:37 - Having the run of a supermarket after hours must be fun. 24 hour opening kinda ruins that though. 12:08 - This film has a Pete in it. 18:30 - I want that den! Pool table, bar, television. Sold! 23:07 - “The flaming, flying tigers.” 30:11 - Ooh, the running club helped! I don’t think my running would help me catch someone. 33:39 - You really ain’t seen nothing yet. I love this song. 38:54 - Poor cow! 46:42 - They can transplant a lot of things, probably not that. 50:42 - “Everyone likes gum. Let’s go.” 55:51 - The “aliens being people” thing makes me think of the Men In Black video wall. 1:04:04 - The terrifying neighbour talks like the Mac voice. 1:12:34 - “How does it feel to be in a club of one?” Aww. 1:16:35 - Everything you need under one roof. Maybe the supermarkets are not so good. 1:20:59 - I like the constant nicknames. It’s like Sawyer on speed. 1:24:01 - “You rejected me. Because I was too awesome for you.” 1:31:04 - That thing shoots mega lasers. That must come in useful soon. 1:37:05 - They should have stuck with Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.
Bit disappointing as it turns out. It was a reasonable watch, entertaining enough, but Jonah has been better in other things. They made good use of that improvisational feel but at the same time, it felt like they were being crude just for the sake of it. Ayoade was good, I’d like to see him in more stuff. I felt this was very much like Tower Heist - good enough but not special.
