I’ve seen this at least once, maybe twice, but not so much that I can remember all that occurs. Mr C hadn’t seen it, which surprised me, but then I realised we’ve only really just got so obsessive with all these superhero movies. Anyway, with me being under the weather, we wanted something quite easygoing.
1:12 - Is it wrong to think he’s about to talk about an Apache helicopter? 3:27 - I don’t remember it starting like this. Pretty tough. 6:46 - Mutant registration would be a very odd list. 10:29 - That does seem like a pretty terrifying place to be. 11:35 - Those are slightly worrying sideburns. 13:34 - I didn’t realise he could control them individually. Not quite Edward Scissorhands, is it. 16:28 - You can’t be called Rogue, it’s a state of mind not a name! 21:22 - That’s a proper underground lair. 31:09 - He says he would lock them all away, but there are some who can go through walls, so that doesn’t help. 49:14 - I think I wouldn’t mind Hugh Jackman chasing after me, although that motorbike is not a preferred method of transport. 50:44 - “The first boy I ever kissed ended up in a coma for three weeks.” It’s tough growing up. 55:08 - They do manage to make quite a lot of mess. 1:01:41 - Can you have selective radiation? Why wouldn’t it work on mutants? 1:08:47 - If Magneto was Polish and moved to the US for a fresh start, where did he get his British accent from? 1:14:03 - I do find Halle’s role in this quite pathetic. 1:19:27 - “I thought you lived at a school.” 1:26:19 - I mean, it’s evil radiation, but it’s quite pretty. 1:33:54 - Nice chess board.
It’s good. It gets off to a bit of a slow start and it takes a while to warm to any of the characters, but then when you do it starts to get interesting. The action ratchets up, and the animosity between Wolverine and Cyclops adds some much-needed humour. There’s a lot of serious messages to be pondered, with regards to this whole other race of people being treated differently, and I can see how this spawned quite a few sequels!
