Title: Ice Age Director: Chris Wedge, Carlos Saldanha Year: 2002 Run time: 1hr 21m
Somehow, the whole Ice Age thing passed me by. I like a good animation, particularly when it involves animals being cute and/or funny, but I hadn’t seen these chilly dudes. However, we watched a trailer for the fourth installment and thought that looked quite good, so figured it wouldn’t hurt to see where it all began.
1:54 - Oh my word. Somebody broke that. 4:05 - Is that thing a squirrel? 7:50 - “Don’t let them impale me!” 9:24 - Who knew dandelions were so tasty? 10:51 - Fun to see how not-so-good water animation used to be. 13:09 - “Isn’t there someone else you can annoy?” 19:18 - Oop, I see. The Jungle Book but with a mammoth. 22:38 - “I’m not fat, it’s all this fur. it makes me look poofy.” 27:18 - Scariest peekaboo ever. 31:07 - Sloth doing slo-mo running dance works for me. 32:50 - He fidgets like I do. 40:00 - I don’t so much like that prodding game! 40:40 - Stonehenge! 45:27 - Evolution of the sloth in front of his very (wide) eyes. 55:43 - Phew, that was a bit worrying! 58:12 - Lord of the Flame. Is that like Lord of the Dance? 1:03:47 - Maybe that’s how snowboarding was invented! 1:07:12 - “You know me, I’m too lazy to hold a grudge.” 1:13:27 - I don’t really get why the mammoth went the other way to everyone else, if he’s going south anyways.
Well, it’s gloriously short! I do love a short film but on the flip side, it seemed like we were a bit short-changed in value for money! I thought this was quite fun, although a lot of the time I was laughing at the block-headed men. They reminded me of the block-headed people in Tomb Raider 2, where the animation just isn’t good enough to keep up with the ambition. Anyway, some fun characters, a reasonable story, nothing spectacular but plenty of scope for more.
