Title: Magic Mike Director: Steven Soderbergh Year: 2012 Run time: 1hr 50m
I had such mixed feelings going into this one. Firstly, it has Matthew McConaughey in it, with not an awful amount of clothes on. Then again, there aren’t many clothes all round. I’m a bit… ridiculous and prudish about, well, everything. So, Mr C wanted to watch it, I sort of did, sort of didn’t. Eventually we got round to it, and embraced the stripping!
1:38 - Hehehe, “You do have the right to be an attorney…” Oop, wrong film. 4:23 - Genuine lens flare. It must be annoying that I shout this every time. 6:44 - Why have they Instagrammed this film? Or is my TV broken? 11:44 - “You’re gonna no questions asked owe me.” 19:39 - All shapes and sizes of chaps there. 23:01 - That is dub step Weather Girls. I mean, you think you’ve heard everything. 27:39 - I’m no expert on these things but he might need to take his socks off. 35:27 - McConahoodle appears to be wearing a yellow cropped vest top. This is not great. 41:13 - She has a proper frownie face on. 44:46 - Jeez, even I don’t frown that much. 58:20 - That bit was very Full Monty. I haven’t seen that for ages. 1:01:36 - “You don’t need to talk, just look pretty.” That’s Olivia Munn for you! 1:07:43 - These people work all day, strip all night, when do they sleep? 1:12:21 - A custom-funiture-maker-man. 1:15:26 - She’s fun really, I don’t understand why she’s so frowny all the time. 1:20:39 - That’s an understanding fiance. 1:22:30 - “But you don’t, you didn’t and you won’t.” 1:27:11 - Pig as a pet! I need one. 1:32:18 - Ugh, drugs are stupid. 1:34:56 - If he could finish a sentence… that might be useful. 1:36:26 - It only took him three months to degenerate into a mess. 1:45:15 - Breakfast food.
This was not at all what we thought. A lot of it was stuff I didn’t really relate to: drugs, clubs, stripping, etc. It was a lot more arty than I’d expected, the Instagram filters, the incredible camera angles, and the natural dialogue. It was fun seeing Olivia Munn, hadn’t quite expected to see so much, and I enjoyed the banter between Mike and… I want to say Brooke? It’s not going to be my favourite film of the year, it was better than I’d expected, but not really my style. I do quite like this Channing fellow though.
