Title: Tower Heist Director: Brett Ratner Year: 2011 Run time: 1hr 44
The trailer for this one looked good, Ben Stiller doing a bit more of a serious role, although clearly in the midst of a comedy. Eddie Murphy doing something that doesn’t involve being padded to twice his size. And a little bit of Casey Affleck too.
1:19 - I want a swimming pool on my roof. 3:41 - Hey, you actually can learn about cheese on the radio! 5:26 - I like a man who knows exactly what is going on at all times. 8:01 - Although, he is allowing a man to get away with goodness knows what! 11:02 - “I’d sleep in my car but they repossessed it.” 13:14 - I like someone who says Remember when this happened… But it was actually a dream. 15:32 - Clearly no one listens in the meetings. 18:40 - Ben Stiller is going grey. I like the dark with grey flecks look. 21:56 - “Sometimes I forget the rules.” Kinda admitting he’s guilty. 26:18 - Quite profound. “Truth is, people can open their own doors.” 30:02 - I’m thinking Casey Affleck is kinda cute. 35:32 - You’ve gotta be drunk to call a cab a crab. 38:20 - $20,000 to have a baby! 45:33 - Didn’t they all just leave their wallets with a thief? 48:15 - Yes they did. 49:34 - It’s like an amateur version of Ocean’s Eleven. 56:30 - Why do they never say what restaurant and where, what time, who is picking who up, etc? 1:05:04 - “We go on Snoopy.” 1:09:42 - Well, they did say you had to adapt a plan if things change. 1:10:37 - “The maid’s gone rogue.” He said Rogue! 1:13:28 - Random Kanye West reference. 1:20:31 - Matthew Broderick’s a bit of a wimp, hey? 1:22:17 - Although dangling from a car at the top of a skyscraper is pretty terrifying. 1:28:09 - Boy, those lifts move fast! 1:33:51 - Why six restaurant reservations? 1:38:56 - Does it make it easier going to prison when you know you did the right thing?
I liked this one, it was funny in places but it didn’t quite seem to fit together properly. The story was incredibly unbelievable, even from the basics of why they were planning the heist in the first place, never mind the end result with the car. The story only really worked because of the strength of the characters, and I thought the acting was good, considering it was quite difficult material to pull off well. Overall enjoyed it, though.
